INCREASES AT FOUR PORTS DUNEDIN COLLECTION £148,234 INCREASE OF £8,208 OVER LAST NOVEMBER A substantial increase in the total revenue collected at the Dunedin Customs Office during the month ended yesterday is disclosed when a comparison is made with the figures for November of last year. This year the total for the month was £148,234, which is an increase of £3,208 over the amount collected during November, 1937. The returns of Customs duty for November of this year were £71,564, while for the corresponding period last year the figures were £64,370—-an increase of £7,194. Beer duty this year is down slightly, the amount collected during the month ended yesterday being £30,194, compared with £33,960 for November, 1937. A gain is shown, however, in the sales returns, which this vear amount to £26,240, against £25,730 for the 1937 period. Petrol tax collections last month amounted to £17,201, which represents a gain of £520 over the returns for November, 1937, and there is also a slight increase in gold duty. There is a slight drop in the returns from tyre tax, the figures this year being £754, and last year £843. The following are the figures for November, together with those for the corresponding month of last year (shillings and pence omitted): —
