Customs Collections Larger
Brighter Tone in Overseas Markets A general slight upward trend marked London investment operations following on Sir John Simon’s loan statement. New York is slowly recovering from the recent decline. Dow Jones industrials are just below the 150. mark, recorded yesterday on a moderate turnover. Although issues which lost ground yesterday failed to recover on the Dunedin Exchange this morning, no further falls were registered. Business was fair. Gold lost 2d yesterday to £7 9s Id an ounce, making a loss on the official price of B|d in three days. Customs revenue collected at the four main ports for the month of November shows a general increase. The total revenue collected at Dunedin is £8,208 above last year’s corresponding period, while increases under the four major headings were recorded at Auckland. For the first time since last April, the net revenue collected at Wellington showed an increase, while Christchurch shared in the improvement.
