OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held last night. The chairman (Mr J. W. Dove) presided. and present were Messrs A. Steel, iR. Walls, W. H. M'Leod, D. M'Lcnnan, A. F. Quelch. Mesdames W. A. Ross, D. G. M’Millan, and A. Fraser. APPOINTMENTS APPROVED. The Director-General of Health forwarded the approval of the Minister of Health to the appointments of house surgeons.—Received. BEQUESTS RECEIVED. Advice was received from the Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company Ltd. that the sum of £4O would be available to the board under the Richmond bequestThe District Public Trustee, Wellington, wrote advising that the board would receive;a bequest of £571 9s 3d from the estate of the late Mr F. A. Green. VISITING MEDICAL STAFF. A number of applications were received for various positions on the Dunedin Hospital visiting medical staff and referred to the Joint Relations Committee to report to the Hospital Committee at the next meeting. HOSPITAL LIBRARY. The medical superintendent (Dr J. Thomson) advised that the hospital library had been inaugurated on November 21.—The Chairman expressed the hope that the scheme would be the success it deserved. • STATISTICS. It was reported that on Oetober 1 there were 353 patients in the HospitaL During the month 542 had been admitted and 543 had been discharged, leaving a balance of 352 remaining at the end of the month. BENEVOLENT COMMITTEE. The report of the Benevolent Committee stated that during the past month seven persons had been admitted to, four discharged from, and three deaths had occurred at the infirmary ward and Talboys Home. A total of 119 inmates remained in the institution. The receipt of various donations to the Talboys Home was acknowledged.—The report was adopted. HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. 1 It was reported by the Hospital Committee that the chairman had been, authorised to advise the matron of the Queen Mary Maternity Hospital that when booking, she was to refuse admission to patients who could make arrangements for outside treatment. t Received.
