ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

CAR-CYCLE FATALITY. A young man was killed and another seriously injured when_ a motor cycle on which they were riding collided with a motor car at the intersection of Williams street and Tomoana road in Hastings last evening. The victims were: George Lorenzo Cecil Stevens, aged 21, single, of 308 Ellison road, Hastings (killed); lan Duncan Neil MThee, aged 26, single, of Maraekakaho, head injuries, fractured leg, .abrasions, and shock. The driver of the car, Brian Schofield, aged 17, of Hastings, suffered abrasions and shock. * HEART FAILURE. Arthur Chote, single, aged about 47 years, was found dead on his farm at Kiritaki in circumstances pointing to heart failure. The deceased had resided in the district for about 24 years. He served in the Great War, and had been in failing health for some years. CAR AND TRAM COLLIDE. Severe head injuries and concussion were received by J. M'Mrohon, of 195 Worser Bay road, Seatoun, Wellington, when a collision occurred ' between a motor car he was driving and a tram ear opposite Duncan Terrace in Crawford road about 5.45 last night. Late last night M'Mrohon, who was removed to the Wellington Public Hospital, was reported to be still unconscious. CUT BY WINDSCREEN. A Hokitika Association message states that a Government car, driven by Patrick Panned left the road near Saltwater, South Westland. The driver was the only occupant. He was badlycut around the neck by the windscreen and was brought to Westland Hospital. His condition was fairly serious this morning. PILLION RIDER INJURED. When the rider of a motor cycle swerved rather suddenly to avoid another vehicle yesterday afternoon, his pillion rider, Jane Hazlewood, a young girl who lives at 55 Caversham Valley road, fell from the machine and suffered concussion. The accident occurred at the intersection of Water and Crawford streets, and the injured girl was admitted to the Hospital at 5.15 p.m. CRUSHED UNDER FARM MACHINE. A Te Awamutu Association message states that a well-known farmer in the Korakomii district. Alfred Joseph Duffoll (55). a married man with an adult family of three, was fatally injured yesterday evening. Duffell had been ensilage making. When he was harnessing Ins team, the horses became frightened and bolted. Duffell made an unsuccessful grub at the reins and fell under the machine, being so terribly injured that death was practically instantaneous. At the inquest the verdict was accidental death through being run over by a hay mower.
