COUNTRY CRICKET WEEK

RAIN INTERRUPTS PLAY The second day’s fixtures for the Country Cricket Week brought together two good teams in Southland and North Otago this morning, blit the latter shaped disappointingly against fast bowling. In the match between Vincent amt South Otago tho southerners were progressing fairly well when rain fell and play stopped. SOUTHLAND V. NORTH OTAGO. This match was begun on the University Oval this morning in dullish weather. North Otago batted first and Dick and King took the score slowly to 21, when Dick was bowled by Purdue. Geddes, who followed, went at 29, and from that point Purdue and M'Kenzie were decidedly on top of the batting. Kinder, yesterday’s century-maker, put up something of a stand with Paape and, after an hour and a-half, the first change was made in the bowling with 60 up for six wickets. Forde came on in place of Purdue. With 65 up for seven wickets, an adjournment was made at 12.20 p.m. on account of rain, and there was no resumption before lunch. M'Kenzie (four for 21) and Purdue (three for 33) bowled exceedingly well. At Carisbrook to-morrow a very interesting game should be witnessed between a metropolitan team and a team selected from the country players.
