[From Oor Oamaru Correspondent.] CHOIR CONTEST. This week, the house choir contest for the Milner Shield was held in the Hall of Memories, Waitaki Boys’ High School. Four choirs competed, and a very high standard was achieved. Each choir was entirely trained, accompanied, and conducted by boys, who selected their own part songs as well. Mr M. A. Fastier was the judge, and the result was as follows;—Harkness House (conductor, Hudson), 96 points (out of 100), 1; Lee House (conductor, M'Grcgor), 91 points, 2; Sutherland House-(conductor, Reid), 68 points, 3; Don House (conductor, Cochrane), 63 points, 4. WAITAKI FREEZING COMPANY. The annual report of the Waitaki Farmers’ Freezing Company _ Ltd. states that the stock dealt with in the past; three’ 1 Seasons was aa- follows Sheep and lambs: 1936, 374,226; 1937, 354,175; 1938, 347,118. Calves: 1938, I, Pigs: 1938, 993. After providing for depreciation and income tax, the profit was £7,058 7s 4d, plus £934 Is 4d brought forward, a total of £7,992 8s Bd, The directors recommend a 6 per cent, dividend, absorbing £5,745 Is Bd, and that £2,247 7s be carried forward. The retiring directors are Messrs E. J. Meredith, John Newlands. and R. J. E. Smith, who are eligible for re-election. ROWING. The second series of races for the president’s fours were held by the Oamaru Boating Club in a strong north-easterly wind. Four crews competed and the results were; D. Millar (s), R. Hunt, W. Denholm! and N. Low beat H. Kilgour (s), A. MTntosh, J. White, and F. Nightingale in a keen row-off after a dead heat; Stichman (s), A. Robertson. D. Sparks, and R. M'Leod beat R. Whitaker (s), M. Plunket, D. Marshall, and R- Brown by a length. In the final, Stichmau’s crew beat Millar’s crew comfortably. W.D.F.U. The Herbert branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held a social afternoon for three departing members—Mesdames W. and E. H. Ross and Miss Ross. Mrs Boutherway and Miss Henderson contributed musical items, and competitions were won by Miss L. M‘lvor and Mrs A. M'Millan. Bouquets were presented to the guests by Mesdames Irvine, J. Reid, and Cunninghamc, and Mrs Hill presented each with a small gilt from the members.
