WHEAT SUPPLIES

SAFETY MEASURE PROPOSAL SIX MONTHS' SUPPLY IH SILOS [Per United Press Association.} AUCKLAND. November 22. For safety purposes, a six months supply of wheat should always be on hand in Auckland, according to advice received by the Auckland Harbour Board from the Wheat Committee. The board'was asked if it would make space available for the storage of, say, 20,000 The superintendent (Mr D. Holderness) reported to the board that in November the oommittee bad asked as a national emergency measure for the storage in the wharf sheds of 8,000 tons of wheat, and the board had signified its willingness to do so. The new application, however, represented an entirely different situation, and it was a proposal to which the board should not agree in the present circumstances. “If the storage for large quantities of wheat is to be a permanent requirement of the industry,” Mr Holdernesa added, “ this should be provided by the industry off the main wharves, although when the bulk import wharf, with ita adjacent area of reclaimed land is built, it would be practicable to provide a suitable area of land adjacent to the berth on which the silos or grain storage warehouse could be erected.” ; It was decided to refer the question to the next meeting of the board in committee. $
