FOUR THOUSAND WORKERS ON STRIKE MOBILE GUARDS GALLED IN Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright VALENCIENNES, November 22. (Received November 23, at 10 a.m.) Four thousand workers ,at the Call gun factory have started a stay-in strike, protesting against the dismissal of 500 who declined to work overtime in order to attend a union meeting. Mobile guards have been called in and the union is threatening a strike of 10,000 if the strikers are evacuated forcibly. Other strikers in the Denain metal factory have resumed. Five .thousand iron and steel workers have struck. COMMUNIST DECLARATION “ MEN WILLING TO WORK IF DALADIER C^OES.” PARIS, November 22. (Received November 23, at 2.15 p.m.) The Metal Workers’ Union is calling out 20,000 members to-morrow as a protest against police action at the Cail works against overtime, and against the decrees generally. M. Thorez, secretary-general of the Communist Party, declared: _ “ The men are willing to work all the time required for the manufacture of anna to checkmate Herr Hitler on condition that M. Daladier goes.” M. Daladier instructed the prefects throughout France ,to end stay-in strikes without delay.
