Mr G. W. Lane left, by the express this morning for Wellington. Mr A. S. Falconer was a passenger for Wellington by the express this morning. Mr H. Hart left this morning for Christchurch. Advice has been received that the first draft of Air Force trainees who received their preliminary instruction , with the Otago Aero Club under the new 1 Government scheme has reached England. Pilot-officers L. H. Trent and J. E. Vernon have been posted to bomber squadrons and Pilot-officer E. R. P, Fisher to a fighter squadron. Mr W. T. Wilson, Dominion conference president of the Churches of Christ, returned yesterday after a fiveweeks’ tour of the Nelson, Wairqea, and West Coast districts. A New Zealand member of the expedition made to Antarctica bv RearAdmiral R. E. Byrd in 1933-35, Mr H. R. Young, was presented with the Congressional medal by Mr J. G Groeninger, United States Consul in Auckland, at the Consulate yesterday. Mr Groeniuger congratulated Mr Young, who’ is a farmer near Auckland, on. receiving the medal. The award has also been , made to Mr B. Fleming, another New Zealand member of the expedition.' , Reference to the death of Mr -Ewen , Cameron was made at last night’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. The president (Mr P. 0. Smellie). said that Mr Cameron, who was a member of the council of the chamber from 1916 to. 1919, would be remembered as ,a man of high ideals and sterling; qualities.
