CENTRE’S WEEKLY CARNIVAL THIRD ROUND DECIDED At the Municipal Baths last night tbo Otago Centro held its third water polo carnival, four games being played. Kiwi A registered its third win against Dunedin A. In the B grade Dunedin and Kiwi, the leaders, had a great fight, Kiwi running out the winners by 4 goals to 3. KIWI WINS AGAIN. The teams were:—Kiwi A: D. Reid, A. J. Leeden, C. Kidd, M. Taylor, C. Laurence, W. Dyson, A. Thomas. Dunedin A: W. MaoDonncll, E. Tease, W. \yilliams, J. Byrnes, B. Kerr, K. Lcckio, B. M'Gregor. A long pass went from Leeden to Dyson, who failed with his first shot at tho goal. The Dunedin goalie passed out to Toaso, xyho dribbled the ball well up but hesitated in front of goal and lost a good opportunity of scoring. An error by the Dunedin goalie, who threw out to a Kiwi man, gave Laurence an easy goal. Kiwi 1, Dunedin 0. Shortly after 'the goalie made a further mistake and Dyson scored. Kiwi 2, Dunedin 0. Thomas swam upfield when Dunedin were penalised and passed to Dyson, who drew Laurence’s opponent and passed tho ball to Laurence, who scored. Kiwi 3, Dunedin 0. B. M'Gregor, a young player, who was marking Laurence, swam up strongly, dribbling the ball from his full-back position, and was unlucky in not scoring. Dunedin were tiring at the half-time bell. Scores: Kiwi 3, Dunedin 0. Tho game resumed with Dunedin attacking strongly, and from a good passing rally Byrnes was unlucky with his shot. Kidd counter-attacked well into Dunedin territory with.two splendid dashes, but Kerr, who was playing well oil defence, relieved tho position. Kiwi attacked again, and from a scramble in front of Dunedin’s goal tbo ball was passed back to Thomas, who made no mistake. Kiwi 4, Dunedin 0. From tho throw-in Dunedin were awarded a free throw. Byrnes transferred quickly to Williams, who opened Dunedin’s scoring. Kiwi 4, Dunedin 1. Fumbling by Thomas gave Byrnes possession, and he whipped in a smashing shot. Kiwi 4, Dunedin 2. From the throw-in Dunedin took things easy, and Dyson, securing, made no mistake with his shot. Kiwi 5, Dunedin 2. Tho hell sounded with the scores: Kiwi 5. Dunedin 2. Mr D. F. Watson -was the referee. KIWI B WINS. By the odd goal in seven Kiwi defeated Dunedin B, and take the lead in the B grade competition by 2 points. The teams:—Dunedin B: Hodge, D. Decide, O. Ferguson, W. Williams, R. Gibbs, B. M'Gregor. Kiwi B; W. Carr, M. Goodwin, P. Dolan, W. Warren, Roy Geddes, D. Reid, M. O’Connel. From the throw-in Dunedin secured and a tussle ensued. The ball was passed to M'Gregor, who scored in the 2yds area. Dunedin 1, Kiwi 0. Good* combination by Kiwi enabled Warren to gain possession, and he scored dose up. Dunedin 1, Kiwi 1. After alternating attacks Dunedin secured, and good work by Leckio enabled- this player to gain possession, and score. Dunedin 2, Kiwi 1. The game became willing and Reid was ordered out. Shortly afterwards Reid took the water again, secured possession, and passed upfield to Geddes, who transferred to Dolan, this player making no mistake with his shot. Dunedin 2, Kiwi 2. ■These teams were excellently matched, with young players who can show water polo at its best, but the game was spoilt by ‘too much willingness and swimming over opponents without the ball. From a scramble Goodwin secured and scored. Kiwi 3, Dunedin 2. A pass by Geddes to Warren gave this played a chance, and he scored. Kiwi 4, Dunedin 2. In the final stages of the game Leckie sent in a high shot which heat Carr. Kiwi 4, Dunedin 3. The game ended with the final score: Kiwi 4. Dunedin 3. Mr D. C. Bannatyne was the referee. ZENITH WINS AGAIN. Making more of opportunities which came their way, Zenith proved too strong for Kaikorai, and ran out winners by 9 goals to 1. Tho teams: —Zenith: I. M'Ewan, W. Walker, K. Butler, W. Buckland, L. Smith, J. Broadfoot. J. Curry. Kaikorai: E. Sonntag, Fauley, J. Hermiston, T. Laing, R. Smith, D. M'Lachlan, P. Marrett. Play commenced with Zenith obtaining possession, and L. Smith scored. Zenith 1, Kaikorai 0. From the throw.-in Fairley dribbled the ball upfield, hut missed' his shot at goal. Zenith’s goalie placed the ball nicely to Smith, who scored. Zenith 2, Kaikorai 0. Zenith again pressed, and taking the ball to the 4yds mark Buckland secured and scored. Zenith _3, Kaikorai 0. Zenith were dominating the play and Broadfoot scored. Zenith 4, Kaikorai 0. Shortly after, from good passing, Butler scored. Zenith 5, Kaikorai 0. At this stage Kaikorai changed their goalie. Fairley, who was doing excellent work on attack and defence, dropped back to goal. Again combination proved _ successful, and goals were scored rapidly by Buckland and Butler. Zenith 7, Kaikorai 0. Kaikorai took a hand at attack, and raised a cheer from the gallery _ on scoring a goal. Zenith 7, Kaikorai 1. From this throw-in Zenith attacked, and Butler sent in a hard shot from tho wing which found the net. Zenith 8, Kaikorai 1. Just on time Zenith once more found tho not, and the game ended: Zenith 9, Kaikorai 1, Mr B. Kerr was the referee. ST. CLAIR SUCCESSFUL, The final game of the evening between St. Kilda and St. Clair showed St. Clair in better form than last week. J. Swan played a good game, and interest centred on V. Newall, exOtago representative player for St. Kilda. . The teams :—St. Clair : Sprmgford, F. Ellison, J. Swan, J. Durand, J. Roberts. Pritchard, Alexander. St. Kilda: M. Bell, B. Smith, A. Idour, G. Wootton, R. Harrington, V. Newall, G. Williams. Play commenced loosely. Springfield secured and opened St. Clair’s account with a good goal. St. Clair 1, St. Kilda 0. From the throw-in St. Clair threw the ball about, and a good pass to Springford saw this player score his second goal. St. Clair 2, St. Kilda 0. Half-time sounded: St. Clair 2, St. Kftda 0. Fox a start in tho second spell play was loose, but Durand attempted a long shot, which was well stopped by Wootton. Idour was playing a solid game, backed up by G. Williaihs. Play went from end to end, Swan and Newall being prominent. The ball went from a good throw by St. Clair to Swan, whoi scored with a high lob shot. St. Clair 3, St. Kikla 0. Play was fast for a spell, and after a good mi.x-Up in front of the St. Kilda

goal Ellison scored. St. Clair 4, St. Kilda 0. After the throw-in Swan passed to Ellison, who again scored. St. Clair 5, St. Kilda 0. This was followed soon after by a beautiful shot by Newall, who scored from his own 4yds mark, the ball forcing the goalie back. St. Clair 5, St. Kilda 1. From the throw-iu Ellison secured and scored. St. Clair 6, St. Kilda 1. Shortly afterwards, from good passing, St. Clair, a train attacked, and Springford scored. Filial score:—St. Clair 7, St. Kilda 1. Air D. F. Watson was the referee. Kiwi A and B teams will hold a practice on Thursday evening at 7.
