UNION FEES PAYABLE IN ADVANCE . i [Per United Press Association.! i HASTINGS, October-28. Members of the Hawke’s Bay Build ; ers and General Labourers’ Union' wili have to pay union fees annually in ad vance. Registration for an amendment to the union rules to provide for this has been granted, and the new conditions were brought into force to-day. The secretary of the union sent out notices to the employers earlier this month' warning them that the fees had to be paid annually in advance, and stating that they were liable to prosecution if they employed workers who had not paid their fees. • A week later the Minister of Labour (Mr Armstrong) telegraphed the inspector of factories at Napier (Mr W. J. Berryman) that the amendment to the rules had not been registered, and could not be enforced. Mr Armstrong gave instructions for the employers to ignore the secretary’s letter. The secretary has now sent a further letter to the employers advising them that they are liable to prosecution for employing workers who have not paid their fees in. advance, now that the amendment has-been registered.. j
