SHOT THROUGH EYE
FATALITY IN CAFE MEN JOKING AT MEAL A revolver found in a dustbin was being; exhibited in a. cafe at: Paddings ton, London, where dustmen were takr ing a meal, when it went off and killed one of the men, William Surety, aged 26.- -.-- ■ Detectives who questioned John Kelly, a friend of the dead man, were satisfied that the weapon was accidentally discharged. ■ House-to-house inquiries were made in Kensington Gardens Square and Sutherland Avenue , to. discover who placed the revolver in the dustbin. Kelly said afterwards that the revolver was passed, round the table, and one man jokingly pointed it at a woman 'and said: “ Lady, give ua your bag.” It went to several other men, then came to mo,” Kelly, said. “ I was holding the weapon, which was small and of American make, when suddenly it exploded, and Surety, who was**standing np at the moment, was shot through the eye. Ido not remember, touching the .trigger. .4* None of us had any idea it was loaded. I went straight to the police station.- - -
“ Surety was a pal of mine, and 1 was to haVe> played; him darts to-night. I would have given my right arm rather than that this should have happened.” ! An eye-witness’ told the' police that the trigger had been pulled several • times without effect before the shot was fired.
