PARLIAMENT BUILDING

EXTENSION DELAYED HOUSES FOR PEOPLE GOME FIRST [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 20. Difficulties in the way of early completion of Parliament Buildings were pointed out by Mr Savage when asked in an interview if the Government contemplated proceeding with this work in the near future. There were, he said, other and more urgent building requirements demanding attention before a start could be made with the construction of the south wing of Parliament House. Nothing definite had been decided about making a start with the completion of Parliament Buildings. At the same time, it was obvious the buildings could not remain in their present uncompleted state for ever. “ The Government is anxious to see a start made with the work, and although the centennial would be a fitting occasion for the completion of the buikling in accordance with the original plans, first things must come first. The Government has a big building programme in the way of providing houses for the people. Accommodation also will, have,te be found for the staff ’required to administer tho social security 1 scheme. These things must naturally take precedence.”-
