QUIET TONE LITTLE CHANGE IN VALUES LETHARGIC TREND MARKS OPERATIONS Reacting from the active conditions which have characterised investment operations this week, the market tended towards lethargy this morning. Values on the balance showed little change, although late rates ruled, while operators displayed little inclination to alter limits. Business, therefore, showed a decline. . , New Zealand issues experienced their quietest call of the week. Bank of New Zealands failed to attract a buyer, a sole seller asking £2 2s, while insurance scrip closed unchanged. Meat /preservings, coals, oiH, and woollens were lifeless. . Of the few Dominion industrial issues quoted, N.Z. Drugs made the only appreciable movement, unanswered sellers lowering limits further to £3 9a. N.Z. Breweries, remained firm, while among gold mining scrip Molyneux Rivers appreciated sharply to between 9d and lid. . L a<l Australian scrip shared in the general lethargy. Coles, Broken Hills, and other leading industrials were general y steady, but the appearance of a slightly easier trend was barely discernible. Mining scrip was quiet, but values generally showed no change. f / SALES REPORTED. —Late Yesterday.— , Bank of New Zealand, £2 Is 3d, £2 I *G. J. Coles, £3 19s 6d. of competition to the intermediate and Junior divisions. Several preliminaries were held at the school yesterday, including the onemile senior championship, which was won by the Otago Junior 440yds and half-mile champion, J. A. M'Pherson, in the smart time of 4min 52sec. The same competitor further entrenched his position in the middle-distance championship by accounting for the 440yds this morning in 56 l-ssec, a good performance, having regard to the stiff breeze that was blowing. R. G. Gough, the Otago junior 120yds hurdles champion, won this event in 17 3-ssec. a good effort, as the event was run into p. stiff breeze. M. J. Phelan was an outstanding performer in the field division, as he broke a long-standing record in the 121 b shot putt, his performance of 39ft 9in displacing the 36ft Sin put up by G. 11. Dickinson in 1921. Phelan also won the long Jump senior championship with a good leap of 19ft 9|in, he did the best effort in the hop, step, and jump handicap, with 40ft 7Jin, and also in the javelin, in which he threw 117 ft llin. K. W. Paterson won the high Jump senior championship, in which he cleared the bar at sft 2in. B. E. M'Pherson won the intermediate (under 16) 100yds championship in 11 2-ssec, and an outstanding competitor in the junior division was W. Porter, who won the 100yds into the breeze in the clinking time of 11 l-ssec and the 220yds in 25 4-ssec, also accounting for the 100yds hurdles in 14sec. K. M. Lindsay won the high jump at 4ft Sin. An outstanding run was put up in the mile handicap this morning by H. Nelson, a 15-year-old competitor, who finished second to M'Lay (200yds). Nelson, who ran from scratch, registered 4min 53 3-ssec. The events were got off with commendable despatch, the secretary being Mr B. W. S. Botting, and the starters Messrs J.. P. Northey and W. Lang. A special feature of the meeting is the forms championship, which arouses con•siderahle keenness among the boys. Thanks are duo to the Press stewards —Messrs W. A. Evans, W. I. Laing, and J. B.
