NEW SOUTH WALES PREMIER MAY ENTER FEDERAL POLITICS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY. October 18. The ‘ Sun ’ publishes a persistent rumour that the Premier of New South Wales, Mr B. S. Stevens, is likely to enter Federal politics, where it is believed he will prove an acquisition. In this event he would receive an important portfolio in the Ministry. WOULD STRENGTHEN CABINET. SYDNEY, October 19. (Received October 19, at 10.30 a.m.) The ‘ Herald’s ’ Canberra correspondent says the opinion is growing- that as the most outstanding men available should direct the defence programme the Federal Cabinet should be reconstituted. It is suggested that one or more of the State leaders should transfer to Federal politics, and Mr Stevens is mentioned as one . who would strengthen the Cabinet. _A proposal that is firmly supported is that an “ inner cabinet ” should be formed comprising about five senior Ministers, to deal with defence, finance, international relations, and trade matters. The ' Daily Telegraph ’ says there is no doubt that Mr Stevens intends to transfer to Federal politics.
