AUSTRALIA BEATS KENT COUNTY SCORES 377 FINE INNINGS BY AMES Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON,- August 16. (Received August 17, at 11 a.m.) The weather was cool and windy for the continuation of play in the match Kent v. Australia. The attendance was small. _ Ames, without repeating yesterday s fireworks, scored steadily and secured 11 off Fleetwood-Smith’s first over, in which Walker fumbled a difficult legside chance of stumping. Kent became the first county to exceed 300 against Australia on the tour. Ames went on splendidly, and was particularly severe on White, but eventually fell a victim to Waite, who rooted up the off sturap._ Ames was exceptionally fine in driving, and hit three 6’s and 15 4’s. Todd, after a tedious display, played on Waite, who maintained a high standard of accuracy. Knott batted cautiously, while Davies soon fell to Ward. The remaining batsmen were all out just before lunch, leaving the Australians 7 runs to get to win, which they obtained without the loss of a wicket, thus winning by 10 wickets. Details:— KENT.
