SHEEP MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEAR
POLICE INVESTIGATING [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 17. Lost, stolen, or strayed—those are the questions which arc troubling a number of people who‘are attempting to trace a: nock of 192 half-bred,, ewes, which mysteriously - disappeared from the property of Pascoe Brothers, Aylesbury, some time on Monday night, or early on Tuesday morning. The sheep, which were heavy in lamb, appeared to be safe and sound on Monday, but on Tuesday morning they had vanished into thin air,. _ _ ■ The police are investigating the mystery, but so .far .as is known there is nobody who can or is willing to throw any light on the subject One day the sheep were grazing on the farm, and the next they were not there. No disturbing sounds accompanied the departure of the sheep from the paddock some distance back from the road, and a quarter of a mile from the homestead. There are no signs' of damage to the fences or the gates, and at the moment the disappearance of the sheep and their ultimate fate is still a puzzling mystery.
