MR SCRIMGEOUR'S RESIGNATION HE WILL " CARRY M " • ~ ( [From Oue PARmnENXARrK EPORrER -I WELLINGTON, August 17. He is going on all right,’,’ declared the Prime Minister,, in making an official announcement that the resignation of Mr Scrimgeour as Controller of the Commercial Broadcasting is not being accepted. “He simply placed himself in my hands,” continued Mr Savage, “ and my attitude has been made clear in Parliament. The story did not start yesterday or the day'before. It started prior to the last General Election. He never did get on with the PostmasterGeneral of those days, and it came to a climax with the famous-jamming incident. When we decided to set up a Commercial Broadcasting Department he was looked upon. as the best man for the job, largely because of the maike-up of the man and his general outlook. He has, been subjected to severe criticism right up to the present day, and his outburst over the air. I am not defending that outburst, but I understand it well, for I have my feelings. . The result of it all is that he has received communications from all parts of the'country, including organisations. I hare, received them, too, but not to the same extent. The result was that Mr Scrimgeour placed himself in- the -hands of the Prime Minister, and the Prime Minister says he is going to stay.” . Asked if Mr Scrimgeour’s continuation in his position was being subjected to any conditions, such as restriction over matter broadcasted by him, Mr Savage replied: “No conditions at all. He simply carries on.”
