THE STRIKE ISSUE TO BE MADE BY RANK AND FILE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, August 5. The coal miners’ convention was continued to-day in camera. It was revealed to-day that an actual decision on the strike issue will be made by the rank and file at pithead meetings in two weeks’ time after the service of the log on the proprietors. SAFETY IN MINES GOVERNMENT OFFERS TO APPOINT TRIBUNAL. SYDNEY, August 6. (Received August 6 ,at 10.30 a.m.) The Government is prepared to appoint a tribunal, consisting of a judge with Supreme Court status and two others representing the employers and the employees, to inquire into the safe working of the coal mines. The Premier (Mr Stevens) made this announcement when he was asked to define the Government’s attitude on the claims of the Miners’ Federation.
