SECONDARY SCHOOLS TEAM PROPOSED TOUR OF AUSTRALIA i (Ter United Press' Association.] WELLINGTON. June 21. The decision to contribute up _to £l5O towards the expenses of sending a New Zealand secondary schools’ team to Australia this year if such a tour could be arranged was reached at to-day’s meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association. a A letter was received from the Wellington Association forwarding the suggestion from its Junior Management Committee and asking the council to defray half the cost of the tour, which would be the return visit promised to the Australian schoolboys 10 years ago The party would consist of 16 players and two managers, and the tour would take place during the August term holidays. The council was asked to make every endeavour to have the team visit New South Wales and Victoria. Members considered the time short in which to arrange such a tour, but it was decided to communicate With the Australian Football ' Association and ask th#*t body to reply by cable if the tour could be arranged. Mr W. L. Wilson said the' cost of the fares would be £236 (irrespective of the managers and the equipment. £26). Mr F. Sanders: We have to start with and we ought to spend some money on them. VISIT BY OVERSEAS TEAM. The question of inviting an overseas team to visit New Zealand on the occasion of the centennial was briefly discussed. The chairman (Mr J. A. Milburn) asked for an expression of opinion as to the possibility of such a tour. Mr W. L. Wilson said it would be better to have a tour in 1939, and he suggested a visit from India that year. South Africa was also mentioned," but it was considered the cost of bringing a team from there would be. too great. Mr Milburn said that S. M. Hussain, a member of the touring Indian hockey team, was also a “ Soccer ” player, and action was deferred till the chairman had had an opportunity of discussing the matter with him. F.A. TROPHY. A challenge was received from Otago for the F.A. Trophy. The Canterbury Association wrote advising that July 9 was not a suitable date for their F.A. Trophy match against Wellington at Christchurch because of counter-attractions. July 16 was suggested as a more suitable date, and this was referred to the Wellington Association.
