The New Zealander, Andrew, strained a tendon and was Budge opened on the centre court against Gandar-Dqwer, who failed to sustain his reputation as a giant-killer, although occasionally be brought fine recoveries and attacked gallantly. Budge always spurted when pressed. A minor sensation was caused by Filby, a rising English player, leading Austin by two sets to one and 5-4 in the fourth, but he became over-anxious and missed opportunities. Results:— MEN’S SINGLES. Malfroy (New Zealand) defeated Moore (Britain), 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Lee defeated Brown (Now Zealand), 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. . . , Hecht defeated Leyland (Britain), who replaced Andrews, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Budge defeated Gandar-Dower, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3. Khosinkie defeated Hare, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Austin defeated Filby, 4-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Punceo defeated Brugnon, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

•Metaxa defeated Wilde, 4-6, 6-2, 9-7, 7-5.

Kukuljevio defeated Butler, 2-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Coombe (New Zealand) defeated Ho veil, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The other winners included Mako, Henkel, Menzel, Mitic, Boussus, and Lyttelton-Rogers.
