SPIRITUALIST CHURCH

The Radiant Hall was filled last night by an audience who listened intently to an address by Dr J. M. Moorev, who is nearing the conclusion of his mission at the Spiritualist Church. The subject of the address was ‘ Undeniable Evidence of Communication With the Beyond. * In endeavouring to place proofs before his hearers the speaker did not rely entirely upon the recapitulation of his own experiences. He quoted freely from published accounts of happenings which, he said, were vouched for by men and women of undoubted integrity. These reports described instances of intervention in earthly affairs by spirit entities, and in each case it was for the benefit of the human being concerned. So that, said Dr Moorey, the contention of a lot of people that all spirit communications and spirit phenomena were of the devil did not appear to be well founded. There was, for instance, the case of the man who was pushed violently from his seat by a rapidly-revolving wheel and belt just before the belting broke and the seat was smashed to pieces; also the case in which a wellknown London doctor was saved from suicide when a clergyman received, clairaudiently, a message urging him to go at once to the doctor’s house. The clergyman went, just in time to prevent the medical man using upon himself a revolver. Dr Moorey quoted further instances of spirit help; of the lady who, quite unacquainted with the art of painting, is enabled to execute beautiful tapestries while entranced, and of the curious phenomena of the picture of St. Therese being imprinted upon the window pane of a house in Sydney. Dr Moorey told also of an experience of his own in which he was, by spirit influence, prevented from travelling by a ship which on that particular voyage was lost with all on board. The speaker went on to stress the “ naturalness ” of the other world, where those who passed over from the earth plane would he able to indulge in many of those activities which had given them pleasure here. “There is humour in the Beyond,” said the speaker, • “ and why not?”- And ijp

went on to speak in strong terms of those who were afraid to admit that they believed in Spiritualism; afraid of ridicule. But, he added, there were not a great many people who laughed at Spiritualism nowadays; most were glad to hear something about it, especially if they were in trouble. And as one grew older, he added, one realised how thin was the veil between this world and the next, and it was surely worth while finding out what was ahead. At the conclusion of the service Dr Moorey delivered a number of clairvoyant messages. Mr 11. N. Ridd presided.
