HANOVER BAPTISTS. The Hanover Baptists ran from the South Dunedin Baptist Church, undet the whistle of Captain D. Bilson. Running in'one pack, a fast pace was set along Bay View road to the Portohello road, which was followed to Waverley. Branching up .the hill, a steady pace was kept until the High road was reached about a mile below the wireless station. From here some good cross-country running eventuated over the paddocks to the back of the Tomahawk Lagoon. Following the road back to Tahuna, the pack held together until Bay View road was reached. A fast clip was maintained back to the hall, about five runners finishing in a hufach. ANGLICAN. Anglican held its three-mile steeplechase for the Soldiers’ Memorial Cup. Result:—L. C. Curtis 1. W. Donovan 2, R. S. Moody 3. T. Allen, 4, E. Darby 5. J. Mann 6. CELTIC UNITED. The run consisted of a three-mile trial of the Edmond Cup course. As the start a medium pace was set by W. A. Kennedy, and continued for one lap, after which a solid pace was maintained for the rest of the journey. V> ■ A. Kennedy, C. Airey, and R. Carroll were going well in front, with son, Tarleton, and Grant following. Coombs and Ryan had also improved their position at the water jump the second time round, while Daly and Sullivan were pacing easily at the bottom of the back straight. Indications generally show that the team should perform well in the big race next Saturday. The rest of the members held a run from St. Joseph’s Hall at 2.45, under the whistle of Captain F. Woods. The most prominent men on the run were H. Taylor, R. Thompson, and J. Southall.

CIVIL SERVICE. With pleasant overhead' conditions and the track in fine order the club held the Edmond Cup trials at Wlngatui. Thirty runners lined up before Mr J. W. Gerken, who got the field away to a good start, with Geddes and Barnes in the lead, and Asher, Mackinnon. Whittleston, Coutts, and Watson next, the rest of the field being fairly bunched. Coming on to the back straight the first time round Asher had moved up into first place, which he held right up to the last quarter-mile, where Geddes passed him. J. G. Barnes dropped back a bit in the first lap, but caught up and gained a lot of ground during the second lap. Considering he has had little preparation, his run was exceptionally good. It is hoped that he will be in the club No. 1 team next week. S. Asher, who devotes more time to training than any other club member, is showing that his time is well spent. Asher will be well up next week, and is likely to gain a place in the Otago cross-country team later in the year, Whittleston, Mackinnon, Coutts, and Wilkinson all put in good runs, but were not taking it very seriously. Next week a lot is expected of them. G. Watson filled Eighth place, and was well up all the way. For a junior Walker ran a great race. This young lad has perhaps the best style in the club, and big things are expected of him in a season or two. Another runner who performed well over the distance for his age was Richards. M. Mackinnon and K. Baird ran a little disappointingly, but perhaps lack of training accounts for this. D. Mason unfortunately had a day off with the ’flu, but he is keen, and no doubt will be in the first team. W. Wheeler could he more beneficial to the club with a little more concentration. He has the ability, and it is hoped he will run better next week. Big improvement is shown in L. Carter’s running of late. He will be an ideal road runner in a few seasons. G. Garbntt again turned out, and had a good run. Most likely the club will field two teams next week, but this is not vet definitely decided. The probable No. 1 team is:—Geddes. Asher, Whittleston, Mackinnon, Wilkinson. Coutts, Watson, Barnes, Mason, M. M’Kinnon. CAVERSHAM. The Edmond Cup trial and sealed handicap was held at Wingatui under ideal conditions, the course being the driest for years. A total of 30 members faced the starter, Mr A. J. Holloway. From the start L. K. Donovan and L. L. Hebbard led out, and going over the sod wall the first time A. J, Barr and H, George had joined them, followed by the rest at close intervals. Over the post and rails the order had not changed much, but entering the back straight E. P. Brown was showing out, and going over the water jump he had taken the lead from L. Hebbard and A. Barr. Entering the straight the first time round Brown had a lead of 25yds over Barr, followed by Hebbard, George, Donovan, and W. Young. Diiring the second lap G. L. Austin and G. R. Colston had joined the leaders, and at the water jump the last' time G. L. Austin and E. P. Brown were the leaders, followed by Barr, Hebbard, George, Colston, Taylor, and Donovan. At the finish Austin drew away to win hy 40yds from Brown, with Colston 30yds back third. The sealed handicap in conjunction with the trial resulted in W. D. Morrison being first, F. Mackay second. The time for the trial was 18min 10 4-ssec. Before the race the juniors and colts had a run over the junior cross-country course, under L. L Hebbard. The teams for the Edmond Cup Race next week are as follows;

No. 1 team; G. L. Austin, E. P. Brown, L. K. Donovan, L. L. llebbard, A. J. Barr, G. R. Colston, S. I. George, S. J. Maddocks, T. E. Taylor, W. Young. , No 2 team; C. W. Frye, A. G. Hebbard, C. M‘Gregor, A. Milburn, S. J. Bartlett, F. H. Cummings, R. Emmerson. \V. Honeybone, W. D. Morrison, F. Mackay. Emergencies: Crossan, P. Brown, G. J. Mackay. LEITH. Twenty ran from Jamieson Hall, Maori Hill, for what proved to be a really excellent cross-country run. Deputy-captain Pridham chose the route, with Captain Timms in charge of the stragglers. The trail commenced down Balmacewen road and up to the Kaikorai School, here a .shortcut was taken behind the power house, and the pack emerged on to Helensburgh road. After steep climbing the trail angled off towards the reservoir, where a stretch of good cross-country was encountered. After a lengthy scramble through some dense growth above the reservoir, the pack came into the clear again, and, striking an excellent track, this was followed to the northern corner of the Balmacewen golf links, which were traversed at a rapid clip. From near APGlashan College a run home was started, the result being: R. M'Kinlay first, D. Fincham second. Percy third. UNIVERSITY.

As a result of the trials held at Wingatui. the following team has been selected to represent the University for the Edmond Cup-—R. S Anderson, T. E. Dorman, D. Foord, F. G. Garland,

A. L. Bryant, C. L. Breeze, J. D. M'Gregor. N. S. M‘lvor, R. S. Roxburgh, R. H. Wade. Emergencies: K. W. Cqatsworth, N. H. Griffin. DUNEDIN. The Dunedin Harriers held their three-mile sealed handicap Edmond Cup trial at St. Kilda. A fair field faced the starter (Mr R. Thompson), who got his field away to a good start. L. Hill led out from F. Poole, down Victoria road to the turn on to Lovers' Lane. Hill displaced Poole, and Williams and Coomer improved their positions. These places were not altered till they turned into Lawyer’s Head road, where Williams took the lead from Hill, closely followed by Coomer and Poole. Coming to the finish at the St. Kilda terminus. Hill and Williams were together, arid after a great finish Williams and Hill dead-heated for first place, with Coomer third and Poole fourth. Results: T. Williams and L. Hill (dead heat) I, Coomer 3, Poole 4. Sealed handicap: Poole 1, Coomer 2, Hill 3. The following will represent the club in the Edmond Cup:—L. Hill, E. Williams, F. Poole, T. J. Coomer, R. W. M'Leod, L. Bell, F. Mouat, E. Hastie, B. Drumm. ST. KILDA. The weekly meeting of the St. Kilda Harrier Club was held at Wingatui where a three-mile trial was held for the purpose of selecting a team to represent the club in the forthcoming Edmond Cup Steeplechase. The first lap was taken at a very moderate pace and the opportunity was taken to put in some practice at negotiating the obstacles and water jump. A disappointing attendance of members made the task of the selectors very difficult, es pecially in view of the poor form displayed by some the club’s best performers. The following team has been selected for the Edmond Cup Steeplechase next Saturday:—Dickison, T Beatson, It. Beatsou, M'Cvindle, Thompson, Baldwin, Jakeway, Lumb. Kennedy, Pope. Emergencies; Crimp, A. Carter, E. Cope.
