FOUND DEAD. v Henry Thomas Milton Jones (28), single, who accompanied two companions to Knuangaroa rabbit shooting yesterday morning became separated from them, having intimated that he would go over a ridge to look for rabbits. As be could not be located before dark his companions returned to Wanganui and reported the matter to tho police. Three constables found his body at 2.15 this morning, lying across a pea rifle. There were no marks of injury and it is presumed Jones dropped dead.—Press Association. GOLDEN BAY IRON DEPOSITS. The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who has made a personal inspection of the surveys in connection with iron deposits in Golden Bay, stated that it was too early to makes any prediction on the nature of the expert reports, but he expressed himself as reasonably happy about the prospects. AMERICAN TRAIN CRASH. CHICAGO, June 19—Twentyeight bodies have been recovered from Custer Creek, where the Olympian transcontinental express crashed through a washed-out bridge. The engine, baggage car, mail car, and four forward passenger cars were spilled off the wrecked bridge into the flooded waters of the creek. A relief train picked up 50 injured. In addition to 67 treated for minor injuries thus far at least 46 are unaccounted for. GAS FROM MAIN EXPLODES. A dull explosion followed by a high streak of flame startled persons in the vicinity of the gas main at the corner of Union and George streets about 3 o’clock this afternoon and resulted in the City Fire Brigade being called out. The fire was quickly extinguished. [Workmen have been attempting to trace a leak since last week, when there w;as a similar occurrence in front of a block of flats in Union street.
