At the close of last evenings service at the Moray Place Congregational Church the Rev. Albert Mead, M.A., intimated to the members of the church and congregation that he had placed his resignation of the pastorate, which he had held for 10 years, in the bands of the deacons of the church. He had accepted an invitation to return .to Cape Town, South Africa, to take up work there. He spoke briefly of hia happy term of service, thanking all for their consideration and co-operation while he had been with them. At the meeting of the council of the Dunedin* Bowling Centre on Saturday night the secretary (Mr R. Hanning) was granted three months’ leave of absence. It is his intention to pay a visit to the New; Hebrides, and the president (Mr, TSmith), in wishing him a pleasant trip, expressed the hope that he would return with renewed health and strength to enable him to carry on his work. Mr Hanning leaves in about a month 3 time. At Masterton on Saturday night the Prime Minister presented Miss Zoe Pickering and Mrs Ingley, her sister* with framed letters of commendation from the Royal Humane Society for their gallant attempt to save the life of Monte Tocker at' Lake Ferry four years- ago, w'hen the latter got into difficulties iu the Onoki Lake and was eventually drowned.—Press Association* Advice has been received by Mr JF. Filmer, B.V.Sc.(Melb.), veterinary; research officer at the Wallaceville Laboratory, that his thesis for a doctorate has been approved by the examiners, and that the degree of doctor qf veterinary science of Melbourne Umver* sity will be conferred upon him at tlio next graduation ceremony. Dr Filmer s thesis dealt with the use of cobalt in. the treatment of deficiency diseases m live stock. He was recently engaged by the Department of Agriculture to take charge of its cobalt research work. Dr Fibrier arrived from Australia, to take up his New Zealand appoiutmeno early this year. „ r .
