EVEREST EXPEDITION

NEARLY CAUGHT BY AVALANCHE CLIMBERS RESCUED BY ROPES Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 19. (Received June 20, at 12.5 p.m.) A copyright Calcutta message to * The Times * states that a letter received from the Everest expedition states that Mr Tilman, three climbers, and four porters were nearly caught by an avalanche on North Col. They were dragged to safety by means of ropes. The letter does not mention their intention to return, and says that the monsoon seems to be established. The party is reconnoitring the west side route to ascertain whether it would be practicable to assault the summit in monsoon conditions.
