CZECHOSLOVAKIA “BORN” IN FRANCE
Czechoslovakia, on which the eyes of the world- are turned anxiously at present, was “ born ” at Barney, France, and its birth-is due to he celebrated there on June 20. Barney is a small town 10 miles from the world-famous health resort of. Vittel. Czechoslovakia as a national entity was conceived in Pittsburgh, where representatives of the Czechs and Slovaks signed the-“ Treaty of Pittsburgh,” but. it was at Barney that the “ birth ”■-took:place. It was on June 30,- 1918, ‘that President Raymond Poincare, speaking for France, announced that his Government had recognised Czechoslovakia and her right to .be ah independent nation. Other Powers followed suit, and the new State recognised “de jure” became a nation “ de facto ” after the Armistice.
