DUNEDIN WINS SHIELD •v CHRISTCHURCH SUCCESSFUL IN CROSSCOUNTRY EVENT \ cross-country run this morning concluded the annual tournament between the Dunedin and Christchurch Young Men’s Christian Associations, tho visitors winning the only event of tho series to give Dunedin a handsome mar <r in of points for the Herbert Smith Trust Shield, which the local association holds for the first time since this athletic contest was begun. Actually, two of the Dunedin team’s representatives filled the first and second places, but as this event was decided on the points system, it was won by Christchurch. However, the result made no difference to the positions for the shield, the Dunedin boys, who have performed very consistently throughout the tournament, scoring a total of 8 points and the Christchurch team 1 the visitors will be taken on an observation tour, and in the evening they are to attend a church parade at St. Paul’s Cathedral, followed by a supper, at which the shield is to be presented to the Dunedin team. CROSS-COUNTRY RUN. The course for the cross-country run led from the High School ground, through the Town Belt, to the top of Driver’s road, along Highgate, down Citv road, once round Robin Hood Park, and back to the High School. The teams: — Dunedin.—T. Wallace, D. Ryan, B. Porter, N. French. G. M‘Gill. ■Christchurch. —J. Grainger, J. J. Ingold, H. Sturroch, S. Gordon, J. Booth. The race resulted : D. Ryan (Dunedin), 19min 21sec, 1- T. Wallace (Dunedin), 20min osec, 2; J. Booth (Christchurch), 20miu Hsec, 3; N. French (Dunedin), 22min 7sec, 4. Also competed; J. Ingold (Christchurch), J. Budge (Christchurch), J. Grainger (Christchurch), B. Porter (Dunedin), H. Sturroch (Christchurch), D. Gordon (Christchurch), and G. M'Gill (Dunedin). BASKETBALL MATCH. Tho teams for the basketball match last evening were as follows: — Dunedin. —A. Johnson (captain), P. Le Couteur, N. French, R. Graham, C. Richardson. Christchurch. —J. Grainger (captain), H. Sturroch, D. Gordon, K. South, A. Ingold. After a fast game Dunedin was successful in winning by 28-18. Goals were scored for Dunedin by Le Couteur (6), Johnson (5), French (3), and for Christchurch by South (6) and Gordon (3). DODGEBALL FIXTURE.
