WRESTLING
MEEHAN V. KENNEDY Pat Meehan, the tall and handsome Canadian wrestler, gave such a fine display in Dunedin on his first appearance here against “ Lofty ” Blomfield that the local association lost no time in recalling him for a second appearance, which will be made at the Town Hall on Saturday night. His opponent will be Jack Kennedy, a particularly tough and rugged wrestler from Texas, and the result is bound to be a match in which the wrestling will be both interesting and colourful. Kennedy has been responsible for some really thrilling displays in other centres, and belongs to the type of matmaii that the New Zealand public particularly favours. Hard-hitting and flourishing under the give-and-take conditions of the modern all-in ring, he has shown that he constitutes a real source of danger to any opponent sent in against him. Like Meehan, he is a big man, being over lift in height and weighing more than 16st, while he is so fast on his feet that he can use droplocks and flying tackles with deadly precision. Before he’joined the cash ranks he had a year’s tuition from Farmer Burns, from whom he learnt many of the wide assortment of holds which comprise his attacking equipment. . His victories over Yvon Robert, the highly-ranked French Canadian, and Stanley Pinto, 1931 New Zealand professional champion, clearly indicate his class, and in all his bouts in this country he has shown that he knows what the crowds want and how to give it to them. On past performances he and Meehan are very evenly matched, and a tough contest will be teqnired to decide which is the better man. Further particulars are advertised.
