MONDAY, MAY 9. (Bofork Mr H. W. Bundle. S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Arthur Henry Taylor, a statutory first offender, was fined the amount of his bail (20s), in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. William Gillon, also a statutory first offender, was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, on a similar charge. INTOXICATED MOTORIST. James David M'Kewan (Mr G. Murdoch) pleaded guilty to being intoxicated while in charge of a motor van in Anderson’s Bay road on Saturday evening last. Senior-sergeant Claasen said that defendant was noticed to be driving in an erratic manner, but not at a fast pace, and on being stopped by a constable it was discovered that the van was in a damaged condition as the result of a collision, and that defendant was in a state of intoxication. He was brought to the station and certified by Dr Harty. Defendant had never previously been in any trouble with the police. Mr Barnett said that defendant had attended a football match and had had four dtrinks afterwards. A collision occurred with another motor vehicle when a tram car had pulled up suddenly. Defendant was fined £ls, with medical expenses (£1 Is), his license to be suspended for a period of 12 months. KILLING A SHEEP, William Addison Booth, a young man, 18 years of age, pleaded guilty to a charge of having killed one sheep, the property of Edson Trownson, with intent to steal the carcass. Chief-detective Young said that two other young men were implicated in the action, and he asked for a remand for one week. . , An adjournment until next Monday was granted, a condition being that Booth report daily to the police. FAILURE TO MAINTAIN, James Leslie Rapson pleaded guilty to failing to maintain his wife and children. Mr 0. G. Stephens appeared for Mrs Rapson. After lengthy evidence had been heard the defendant was remanded in custody until Friday, in order to give the magistrate time to consider the matter.
