CR W. A. SCOTT’S CANDIDATURE.

TO THE EDITOR. : Sir, —It does one good in these days, when selfish interests seem to hold first place, to see a tried and proved . stalwart abandon his well-earned retirement and offer to serve again the community which already owes him so much.. I refer to Cr W. A.- Scott s ...decision to offer his services once more to the citizens of Dunedin. With his rich experience of 26 years ■in municipal affairs, he is the type of man every citizen who has the welfare 1 of Dunedin at heart should welcome as a candidate. And in these days when ■ so many seem to regard the council as : - the stepping stone to Parliament, it is indeed heartening to see a man who , 'is sufficiently public-minded to place " himself at the service of his city without thought of gain. With Cr Scott on the council we shall be sure of his ;. regular attendance at the meetings all councillors are elected to attend!, and this is more, I am afraid, than can be Said for some aspirants to municipal . honours. Cr Scott places, a wealth of experi- • ence at the disposal of the public of : Dunedin, and it is just such experience we so sadly need at the present time. Few men have done more for their fellow-citizens Cr-- Scott, and . there are many homeVto-day where he has in a - quiet, unostentatious way been responsible for securing much l ! needed work for the headl of the house. 1 This alone indicates his sincere interv est in the welfare of his fellowmen, f’. and it is such men who combine kindly : consideration ■ for the less fortunate with proved ability in municipal af- ■ fairs, that wo need so urgently to-day. ’ -—I am, etc.', May 7. Gratitude.
