‘ The Times ’ says that Britain has sent General Franco a second Note regarding insurgent aeroplanes bombing the Alcira. It is understood that it fulfils Mr Chamberlain’s recent statement to take a firmer attitude if General Franco’s reply is unsatisfactory.
BOMBING OF CIVILIANS
LONDON, February 28. (Received March 1, at 2 p.m.)
Mr Chamberlain, in making a statement in the House of Commons in reference to the appeal to the Spanish combatants to cease bombing civilians, said the Spanish Government was willing but General Franco had replied that he must reserve freedom of action to strike at military objectives wherever found.
