NOW COSTING £30,000
NEW ROAD TO AIRPORT CITY COUNCIL'S CONTRIBUTION INCREASED An application has been received from the No. 7 District Highways Council for an increase in the City Council’s contribution towards the cost of the Dunedin-Duko’s road highway reconstruction and sealing, reports the Finance Committee. , The original contribution of £2,250 towards the cost of the road, which provides a new and shorter route to the Taieri airport, was agreed to by the council, and the estimated cost of the work at that time was £12,000. This was a preliminary estimate based on a walkover survey of the work, but later a more_ detailed engineering survey was carried out, and the proposals now being adopted provide for considerable improvements. The later estimate, which amounts to £30,000, provides for considerable widening, reconstruction of roadways, and a two-eoat seal. The Main Highways Board proposes to find £IB,OOO of this amount, and the Unemployment Board £6,300, leaving the local authorities to find the balance of £5,700, of which amount the City Council is asked to find 75 per cent., or £4,275, the balance to he provided by the Taieri County Council. The Finance Committee recommends that the increased contribution bo approved, and that provision be made for this expenditure in the allocations for next financial year.
