Wellington Tournament. The open championship was won by Mrs D. C. Henderson (Wellington), runner-up G. Hart (Timaru). Championship doubles: Mesdames Walker and Bryan; runners-up, Mesdames Johnson and Manton. Handicap singles: Section I—G.1 —G. Hart (Timaru); runner-up, Mrs Toms. Section 2—Mrs Furness; runner-up, Mrs Gilbert. Reduction in Bisques. Word has been received locally that by virtue of his high standard of play in , the Hominion tournament Mr J. Ta’nnock (Opoho) has earned a further reduction of half a bisque. His handicap now is minus J, Mr R. W. M'Creath (Gore) was also reduced half a bisque, his handicap now being minus 1. Watea Club. On Tuesday of last week in excellent weather a (return visit ' was paid to Watea lawns by Tainui members. Luncheon and afternoon tea were served op the verandah, the tables looking especially gay with sweet peas and dahlias in

shades of pink and red. At the conclusion of the afternoon tea Mrs Best, on behalf of the Tainui ladies, returned thanks for the kind invitation aud for the pleasant day spent on the lawns. Mrs M'Olatchy, Watea’s captain, responded, speaking of the pleasure and help derived from these friendly games by members who do not as yet partake in interclub competitions. Those taking part were: Tainui—Mesdames M'Natty, Best, Cameron, Sagar, Adamson, and Miss Black. Watea: Mesdames Shaw, Rowlat, Anderson, Bhand. Coombs, and Messrs Park, Stewart, and Hutchins, OTAGO TOURNAMENT. The finals in both championship and handicap singles, B grade, were finished yesterday afternoon. Championship.—Mrs F. Murray (Gore) beat Mrs Jelley (Cromwell), 26-10, 26-17. Handicap Singles.—Mrs Henry (St. Clair) beat Mrs Little (Watea), 26-10. Later in the afternoon the trophies wer© presented by Mrs G. A. Nelson,

president of the Otago Croquet Association. iieforo doing so, in a, happy little speech she thanked the referees, umpires, and grcenkeepers for work done in connection with the tournament. She spoke of the large, amount of work done by the management before the tournament opened, as well

as the work done while the event was in progress. She sincerely thanked the manager, Mrs J. M'Dqnald, also Mrs M'Olatchy and Mrs Nisbet, and complimented them on the efficient way in which the whole tournament had been conducted. Her thanks were also tendered to Mrs Cornish and Mrs Whyte for their services in connection with the cafeteria—a most important part of the tournament programme. She congratulated the winners on their success, and thanked all the competitors who by "their entries had made the 1938 tournament a most successful one in every way. She was glad' to see so many B grade players coming into tournament play. These were the newer players, who would in time take the place of the older A players who have been loyal supporters of the Otago event. Sh© then presented the trophies as follows :-r A GRADE.
