m GOX AS MAYOR LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS The returning officer (Mr J. B. Bell) last night announced the results of the voting to select the Labour Party’s candidates to contest the local body elections in May. M. secretary of the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee, was chosen tonight to contest the Christchurch mayoral election in the Labour interests. Mr Macfarlane, who is 36 years of age, has been secretary of the Labour Representation Committee since 1929, and at present he is a city councillor. Candidates were also selected for local bodies as follow: —City Council, 16 seats: Hospital Board, 9 seats; Harbour Board, 4 seats.
