BIG BOXING BILL

TWO PROFESSIONAL CONTESTS Pursuing its < policy of giving the public the best'that is offering in the way of fistic fare, the Otago. Boxing Association is staging a big double bill at the Town Hall on Monday night, and there should be a bumper house. Pride of place will be taken by the 10-round professional contest between Stan Jenkin (Oamaru), welter-weight champion of New Zealand and holder of the ‘Truth’ Belt, and Doug. Eddington, of Waimate, who is recognised as one of the best crowd-pleasers in the game. Jenkin will be defending his title shortly, and is in fine fettle at present. He was a great favourite with the Dunedin public as an amateur, and since entering professional ranks has met with only one reverse. The supporting professional bout of eight three-minute rounds will mark the professional debut of Dick Baker, highly promising Southland welterweight, who created such a favourable impression here as an amateur last year. Baker will be opposed by Frank La Hood, who had a fine record as an amateur, and gave Don Stirling one of the hardest bouts of _ his career. This should be a very bright and entertaining encounter, and interest in the two professional matches will be enhanced by the fact that they will be refereed by Australia’s leading third man, Mr H. Baker, who has refereed most of Jack Carroll’s fights and also had charge of bouts in Sydney, when the peerless Les Darcy was making the world ring with his name. The professional bouts will be preceded by two amateur preliminaries, iu-

eluding a heavy-weight bout between W. .Hanham, of Waimate, and G. M'Lennan, of Tahakopa. The lowest prices on record are being charged, and full particulars are advertised.
