HEAVY SUPPLIES OF APPLES TOMATO VALUES REMAIN LOW Reilly’s report that heavy supplies of apples, principally Cos’s Orange and Gravensteins, are now coming to hand.Gravensteins are realising good values, but Cox’s Orange have only a fair inquiry and prices are low. Cooking apples are also coming forward in increasing quantities. Some very fine quality freestone peaches, plums, and nectarines have been received during the week, and first grade, lines are netting fair values* Supplies of tomatoes are increasing, but values are low. There is, an excellent demand for,cultivated blackberries. Hothouse grapes are in excess of requirements, and values for this time of the year are fairly low. Increased supplies of passion fruit and New Zealand lemons are being received. Jamaican grapefruit is experiencing a very keen inquiry, and Jamaican oranges are also selling well. . Ripe bananas are meeting with a steady sale. A transhipment of Californian lemons arrived during the week. The Maunganui brought a small shipment of pineapples, which netted good values. Ample supplies of vegetables are available. Cabbage have a slightly better inquiry, but cauliflowers are still difficult to clear at payable values. Increased supplies of potatoes are arriving. There is a better demand for Canterbury onions, which have risen in value during the week. Ample supplies of marrows and pumpkins are available.; Good quality green peas have a fair inquiry. but inferior grades are difficult to sell. . _ New season’s honey has a fair demand. . j - Egg values remain firm at Is 7d £ dozen for guaranteed. There were fairly heavy supplies of poultry for Wednesday’s sale, with' a slight improvement in values.
