The tax for hose taps on householders and ratepayers alike, recently imposed by the City Council, was stated to be something akin to the middle ages, when tolls were in general use for privately, erected bridges, etc. These, however, were scrapped long ago, it was stated. The ratepayers as a tree community, solely determined when asked for their rotes some five years ago that -an extra water supply should be inaugurated for the general use of all citizens alike. To meet the expenditure, the ratepayers guaranteed to pay through all the usual channels, this being included in the vote. The following resolution was carried, the secretary being instructed to send a. copy to the City Council. —“ This association of ratepayers and householders registers an emphatic protest against the tax of 10s per tap per annum levied on possessors of threaded water taps or hoses, and considers it as an unconstitutional and unwarranted departure from the usual lines of taxation. The association requests that this levy be rescinded and that the former methods of collection be followed.”-
