CROQUET
OTAGO TOURNAMENT It is very probable that the tournament will finish to-morrow morning with the finals for the Briggs Cup and the B grade handicap singles played out at Logan Park. In the final of the A grade, handicap singles, played yesterday afternoon, Mrs Robertson (Watea) had to concede 2i bisques to Mrs Rankin, of Logan Park. The former was quite off her shooting, which is usually so reliable, and in a very, quick game, in - which Mrs Rankin played perfect croquet, she ran out the winner, her opponent making only 8 hoops. The final of the championship doubles was also played yesterday afternoon between Mrs Cole and J. Nichol, of Opoho, and Mesdames Cornish and Metcalf, of Logan Park. , The game was rather slow from a spectators’ standpoint, both pairs playing very cautiously. Mrs" Metcalf was the first to reach the penultimate, which she did in two good breaks. All the players seemed to find difficulty with the hoops, the very keen lawns making them very tricky. The Opoho' pair finally’ ran out winner by 7 points. ’ The final of the B grade handicap doubles between Mesdams Stockdale and Harris and Mesdames J. Murray and Robinson produced little in the way of good croquet. The game was very long-drawn-out, being in the end an endurance test-: The-'northern.: players eventually ran out the winners with. TO points to spare. , v The final of the level singles for , the McDonald trophy, which is the best of three games, between Mrs Rankin and • Mrs F. Murray, should be finished late this afternoon.
