WEATHER FORECAST
UHSETTLED—RAIN LIKELY The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office,, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepubi, Halfmoon Bay:— The recent anti-cyclone is moving away eastwards. Pressure is very low over the Western. Tasman Sea, and across the South Tasman to southern New Zealand. Forecast : to strong north-westerly winds, reaching gale force in places. Weather cloudy and unsettled, with rain at times. Tem. peratures warm, sea's rough in Foveams Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate, hut increasing off shore. LIGHT RAINFALL. Light rain fell in Dunedin early this morning, .Olin being registered at the Gardens by 9 o’clock. By this time the fall had ceased, but the sky remained heavily overcast, while there was a light northerly breeze in evidence. Temperatures, despite the changed conditions, remained at a high' level. The maximum reading at noon to-day whs 73.9 deg, while the minimum was 70.7 deg. Yesterday over a period of 24 hours the registrations were 79.2 and 63deg respectively. Barometric pressure at midday was falling < at( 29.65 in. while visibility at this time was steadily becoming poorer, indicating further rainfall during the afternoon.
