SHIP ADOPTION SOCIETY
EXTENSION TO DOMINIONS The Alayor of Port Chalmers has received from the secretary of the British Ship Adoption Society _ the following communication, which indicates that the movement in respect to schools adopting ships is likely to be extended to the dominions. “ I have been greatly encouraged,” the secretary states, “to receive from my good friend, Captain Dawson, of the s.s. Tamavoa, the books on Port Chalmers and Otago that you were good enough to give to him. I can assure you that these will find a welcome place in ‘ Ships’ Corner ’ at the Hardley Senior School, Fawley, which is near Southampton. ‘‘l am greatly encouraged to learn of your interest in our movement, and would ask if you will accept the enclosed copy of our booklet and annual report, so that you may know something of what we are trying to do in order to bring to the youth of this country a knowledge of our dominions and other countries overseas upon whom we, are dependent for our supplies of everything necessary to both our work and livelihood. “ We have had so many requests from New Zealand schools to join the movement that my committee is earnestly engaged in endeavouring to devise a plan by which schools in your_ country as well as in the other dominions can join in this link with the merchant navy serving us all.”-
