BOXING ASSOCIATION

HR BAKER WELCOMED A meeting of the Otago Boxing Association ivas held last evening. Present—Messrs R. S. Glendining (in the chair), ©.'."Fulcher, W. Stiglich, A. W. Justice, C. E. Brown, W. Glengarry, W. Mowat, F. Paape, T. Long, A. E. Grainger, R. Morris, J. Kilmartin, S. Paris. The final arrangements were made in connection with the professional fights to be held next Monday night. It was reported that the contestants were fit and well and looking forward to Monday night. The following officials were appointed :—Referee, professional fights, Mr Harold Baker (of Australia); refex - ees. amateur fights, Mr J. Kilmartin and Mr R. Fulcher; timekeepers, Messrs S. Brown and T. Long; judges, Messrs Paterson and Morris. Mr Harold Baker was then accorded a hearty welcome by the president, who referred to his wonderful athletic career. Mr IBaker, in replying, wished the association every success in the tournament, and hoped his presence would help, in a small way, to make that success.

Of all the sports indulged in by Mr Baker, which are many, he is firmly convinced that boxing holds first place. Mr Baker outlined the style of refereeing and judging in Australia, and gave many helpful ideas and suggestions to the association. He was thanked for his constructive address and was assured that he would be accorded a fine reception by the sporting public of Dunedin on Monday night.
