Johnston and Miss Sapsford, of Christchurch, are the guests of Miss Cook, St. Leonards. Mr and Mrs J. A. Harvey, of the Malay States, left on Monday to walk over 'the Milford track. Misses Margaret Bartholomew and Shona Duncan left on Monday on a visit to Wanganui. Mieses Murna Simpson and Vera Aitken are spending the New Year vacation at Karitane. Miss G. Wilkin, of Wanganui, is spending the vacation with her parents in Dunedin. Miss Jean Miller, , of Newcastle-on-Tyne, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs J. Miller, Maori Hill. Misses Hilda Hislop, Pat Strachan, and Rosemary Ross are spending the holidays at New Plymouth. Mrs Hugh Lynch, of Napier, is visiting her father, Mr Pears, of Etalvale, Southland. Dr and Mrs J. O. Macintyre, of Christchurch, are the guests of Miss Kathleen Greenslade, George street. Miss Jessie Peacock, of Wellington, is the guest of Mr Peter Ban-, Montpelier. Mrs Knox Gilmer and her daughter returned to Wellington by the Awatea on Monday after an extended tour, abroad. Mrs G. Hurndell left at the weekend for Christchurch to attend the wedding of her brother, Mr S. Campbell, to Miss Gladys Howard. Mr and Mrs J. Dunlop and their small son are spending the holidays at Pembroke, staying at -the Wanaka Hotel. Mrs Robert Thompson and her daughter, Miss Joan Thompson, are the guests of Mrs T. Rennie, Broughton street, St. Kilda, Mr and Mrs R. S. M'Kenzie are spending the vacation at Timaru, and are at present guests at the Dominion Hotel. Dr and Mrs Evans, of California, are at present touring the Southern jpakes and Mount Conk, and will later walk over the Milford track. Dr and Mrs David Morrow are spending the Christmas holidays with Mrs Morrow’s parents, Mr and Mrs Arthur Sidey, Melville street. Misses Andrew and Stenhouse, who visited England for- the Coronation, and afterwards made an extended tour abroad, returned to Dunedin on Thursday afternoon. The engagement is announced of Evelyn 1., only daughter of the late Mr R. H. Rosevear and Mrs Rosevear, of Maori Hill, and Robinson R., elder son of the late Mr D. M'Neil and Mrs M'Neil, of St. Kilda. Mrs E. A. Boot is spending Christmas as the guest of Mrs Wright, Oamarn, and will afterwards visit her son at Nelson and her daughter af. Westport. The engagement is announced of Beryl Rosalie, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs P. W. Piper, Burnside, Dunedin, and Alan Rochfort, only son of the late Mr R. M. Mackay and Mrs Mackay, Riccarton, Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. A. Wilkinson, “ Waireka,” Sheen street, Roslyn, announce the engagement of their younger daughter, Kathleen, to John Birch, only son of Mr and Mrs J. B. Steven, Stuart street, Dunedin. Cable advice has been received that Mrs Hugh Speight arrived at Philadelphia, U.S.A., for Christmas. Mrs W. Jones has been appointed adjudicator of the floral and decorative section of the New Zealand National Flower Show, which is to be held in Christchurch next month. Miss Corinne Bain is at present the guest of her aunt, Mrs C. V. Kirke, “ Pusey,” Fairlie, and will later visit Mount Cook. Miss Norma Bain is accompanying Mrs Stuckey and Miss Paddy Stuckey on a tour of the Southern Lakes. Mrs Cecil M. Pickthall, daughter of Sir Harold Beauchamp, arrived in New Zealand by the Mariposa, to visit Sir Harold and Lady Beauchamp, Wellington, with whom she will stay during her visit to New Zealand, which probably will be for at least two months. Miss Ngaire Glue was hostess at an enjoyable picture and supper party for the Misses Betty and Olwyn Juriss, before they leave to reside in Wellington. Among those present were tho Misses Veda Keinan, Cecily McCormack, June Oliphant, Stewart Tilleyshort, Birdie Drake, Marie M'Callion, Gwen Chapman, Maureen MacDonald, Betty Whittaker, Messrs Peter Moore, John MTherson, Ken Patterson. lander, Desmond Clements, Ray Gillespie, John MacFarlane, and George iV right. A pleasant' function took place at Hindon on Thursday last, the occasion being a farewell social tendered by the residents of the district to Mr and Mrs’ Reggett and their sons, who are leaving to take up their residence in Dunecßn. Mr R. C. Robinson, on behalf of their friends, made a presentation to Mr and Mrs Reggett of a suitably-inscribed chiming clock as a token of appreciation of the prominent part they had taken in local activities over a period of 22 years. To Messrs Walter, Frank, and Ronald Reggett was given an inscribed fountain pen. After musical honours had been accorded tho guests, Mr Reggett suitably replied, the function concluding with dancing and games. Items were given by Mr W. Norman (guitar solo) and Mr F. Reggett (piano-accordion solo);
