“HIGH TENSION" DRAMA
UNUSUAL FARE AT THE OCTAfiW £ The, dramatic story of the work and lives of those adventurous worker* whose duty it is to watch over the safety of the high-tension electric supply lines which stretch across jbhe mountains and deserts of America to supply cities and towns with light and power is told in ‘ Slim,’ which is the main attraction on the new programme at the Octagon Theatre. ‘ The leading characters are played by three favourite screen actors—Pat O’Brien. Henry FOnda and Margaret Lindsay—while Stuart Erwin is also entrusted with an important role. The romantic side of the story concerns a love triangle, but the chief interest lies in the exploits of two friends, Slim Kinsaid and Red Blayd. who are linesmen engaged on the difficult and arduous task of repairing the huge, high-tension transmission lines. Slim is fascinated by the work of the linesmen, and is befriended by Red (P.at O’Brien), with the result that he eventually becomes one himself. In all weathers the men must be ready to risk their lives in preventing a possible breakdown in the supply of power, and their labours provide the basis of a thrilling picture.Ann Dvorak and John Trent are th* featured plavers in the second picture, ‘She’s No. Lady.’ which ® contrast to the other film. Tins is fo the most part comedy, but it is romantic comedy, and as such should meet with the approval of audiences The picture tells a good story, and the acting throughout is of a particularly high standard.
