PALMERSTON LADIES AT OAMARU Members of the Palmerston Ladies’ Bowling Club suffered a double defeat at Oamaru yesterday in their matches with the Pnceiiix and Awamoa Clubs. The weather, although fine, was boisterous, and materially handicapped the players. The greens were in splendid order, in the morning the visitors met the Phoenix ladies on the Phoenix green, and were warmly welcomed by the president (Mrs Speid). Airs Phillips suitably replied on behalf of the Palmerston ladies. The match resulted in a win for Phoenix by 75 points to 58. Results arc as follow (Phoenix names first): Alesdaines Frebury, Bremner, Taylor, Adams 14, Mcsdames Martin, Al‘Ritchie, Cameron, Twaddle 16; Alesdames Foster, Speid, Watts, Reid 18, Alesdames Phillips, Lang, Nicol, Thomas 16; Aliss Hilliker, Alesdames Henderson, Milligan, Berry 14, Mesdames M'Rae, Keats, Aloodie, Fraser 18; Alesdames Grenfell, Catto, Aliss Symington, Mrs Aitkenhead 29, Mesdames Ryan, Alorrison, Sheppard, Ross 8. At the conclusion of the match the Palmerston players were entertained at the Bungalow at luncheon. In the afternoon they met the Awamoa ladies on their green, and again suffered defeat by 72 points to 55. MEN'S MATCHES The Mills Shield match between Phoenix and Pukeuri, postponed from November 23, was played at Phoenix on Wednesday, Phoenix winning both rinks, thus scoring the full 20 competition points. Results (Phoenix names first) :—Armstrong, Weavers, Thomson, Foster 22, Hooper, Stevenson, Cagney, H. Easton 15; Jamieson, Craig, A. G. Robertson, Slater 28, Hickey, Bruce, APGettigan, Parker 10. The total points for the first series of matches now stand as follow: Phoenix 36£, Awamoa 19 i, Meadowbank 10, Hampden 0, Pukeuri 0.
