ADVERTISING ON CITY TRAMWAYS.

*0 THE EDITOR. Sir,—This week the cars of our electric -tramway system are decorated with an advertisement for intoxicating liquor—surely a fine example of obtaining revenue. If our tramway department permits the advertising contractors to do this type of advertising on our cars why not remove from its instruction book the clause referring to the dismissal of employees under the influence of intoxicants when, on duty? I am quite open to correction, but if my mind serves me right, was there not a resolution carried by our City Council some years ago against the advertising of intoxicants on our trams? If I am correct, why does the present advertisement appear? The Minister of Transport is exercising every effort to clear our roads of the drunken motorist. Methinks he has a colossal job on hand, especially when our city tramway system is used as I have stated and the liquor trade of our Dominion is permitted to flout the law by after-hour trading. Of this I am certain, that a great deal of trading is done after hours and on Sundays. I live near an hotel and have seem that of which I write.—l am, etc., A Teetotal Motorist. November 18
