—Vice-regal.— The Governor-General (Lord Galway) made a brief visit to Oamaru, when he attended the monthly meeting of the Masonic Lodge of Waitaki, No. ; 11. It was His Excellency’s first visit to the district in the capacity of grand master, and the attendance was the largest of its kind ever held in the town, representatives of all the Oamaru, lodges and the Ngapara, Kurow, Waimate, and Palmerston Lodges being present in large numbers. Mr J. A. Lee, Parliamentary; Undersecretary in Charge of Housing, arrived by last night’s express. Mr Lee left Christchurch on Thursday in company with His Excellency the GovernorGeneral (Viscount Galway) and the Minister of Public Works (Mr Rj Semple). The party visited the irrigation schemes in North Canterbury and inspected the Public Works Depart-, ment’s new; machinery. Later a visit: was paid to the new Timaru aerodrome* Mr Lee, accompanied by Mr D. M.P., travelled to Waimate, where ha addressed a meeting on the Government’s housing scheme and its future proposals. This morning he inspected the Government houses being erected at Liberton, and in the afternoon ha visited the municipal scheme of tha corporation in company with the mayor, (Rev. E. T. Cox). To-morrow evening, in the Concert Chamber, he will give an address on the housing scheme* Air Lee, who is accompanied by his private secretary (Mr F. G. J. Temm) * is staying at the Grand Hotel. Rev. B. Gina, of the Methodist Church, who has been conducting a lecturing tour, left to-day on his return; to the Solomon Islands.

Gilmour, of Auckland, arrived yesterday afternoon to act as, examiners at the medical professional examinations of the University of Otago. Mr C. P. Hainsworth, general man.ager of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition, has booked to leave Auckland for Vancouver by the Aorangi on January 25. He anticipates being absent from the Dominion for six months.Mr H. E. Harper, general manager of. the Victoria Insurance Company ins New Zealand, accompanied by _ Mrs Harper, is at present on a. visit t« Dunedin, and is staying at the Grand Hotel.
