LANDSLIDE IN JAPAN
HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE FIFTY CHILDREN BURIED ALIVE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright TOKIO, November 12. (Received November 13, at 8 a.m.) It is believed that 300 people perished and 14,000 are homeless as the result of the landslide on Komenashiyama Mountain (5,000 ft), in the Nagato prefecture. At least 50 children tvere buried alive. Three hundred miners were burned to death. Rescuers were unable to face the fumes. One hundred • and fifty other _ miners escaped unscathed. The landslide is attributed either to melting show’ or to the explosion of a mountainside magazine. FIREMEN'S ARDUOUS TASK TOKfO, November 12. (Received November 13, at 11.15 a.m.) Fifteen hundred firemen are fighting the flames knee-deep in snow, mud, rocks, and amid incessant falling snow. The task is the more difficult owing to explosions igniting' sulphur heaps..
