FUTURE OF BELGIAN CONGO
KING LEOPOLD'S VISIT TO LONDON ANXIETY OVER GERMAN ATTITUDE Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON. November 12. According to the ‘ News Chronicle’s ’ Brussels correspondent one of the reasons for King Leopold’s visit to London is to discuss the future of the Belgian Congo, concerning which anxieties have prevailed in Brussels since Germany began the campaign to recover her colonies. The Belgians, it is stated, fear thiit Britain, to save her own colonial empire, may close her eyes if Germany were to part of the Congo. King Leopold will therefore ask the British Government, “ Will Britain intervene in favour of Belgium if Germany were to ask for Congo territory? ” The Belgian Government has repeatedly declared that on no pretext will Belgium part with a single square inch of her African possession and will resist with arms any attempted expropriation.
