BRITISH BIRTH RATE

FIRST INCREASE FOR MANY YEARS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, November 11. The British birth rate last year showed the first increase for many years. The figures were 14.8 per 1,000, compared with 14.7 in 1935 and 14.4 in 1933, which is the lowest ever recorded. The County of Durham, one of the worst distressed areas, had the highest, 17.3, disproving the theory that unemployment is to blame for the decline in the population.
